Please drink plenty of water…not flavored but good O’L fashioned water.

Filtered or purified is best.

NOT distilled. It is a dehydrator.

Eat small meals throughout the day that are a mix of good proteins and greens (real veggies) and some good fats throughout the day. That’s a great diet.

On the sun protection side, eat items that have plenty of calcium and magnesium along with good saturated fats and essential fats. These are the components your body uses to protect your skin from the Sun’s rays.

Ever wonder why Vit D (really it’s a hormone) is made ONLY in the skin that is exposed to sun light? Well it’s because Vit D is really made to make calcium available in the blood so that F-factor can allow calcium into the tissues to protect your skin and calcium needs magnesium and saturated fats and essential fats to work.

Remember to limit your sun exposure when its this sunny and hot outside. Laying out to ”tan” on days like these is not a good idea. When the sun is this intense, its better to have frequent but minimal times out in the sun.

There are natural sun screens for those who want to spend more time in the sun but the above has to be followed as well.

It’s that simple.

Now stay healthy and learn as much as you can to be healthy!

I had a patient who had mentioned to me that she had been told that bioidentical hormones are natural hormones from plants.

WELL…not really true. Here is why. Plants DO NOT produce human hormones! Never did and never will. Secondly, hormone issues in women and men (yes men have hormones) are caused by failures of production and control. It’s that simple.

However, production and control of hormones can be influenced by many things. This is a very good reason NOT to take hormones, because its an underlying cause creating the hormone issue.

So what influences hormones?

Chemicals. Most chemicals in our environment are petroleum based. Petroleum acts like Estrogen in our bodies.

Stress. Whether from mood, depression, food or anything, stress changes your hormones in a negative way.

Drugs. It doesn’t matter to your body whether you get them from a doctor or a dealer. Your body sees them as chemical assaults and reacts in a negative way. That’s the side effects.

Food. Yep that’s right! It matters what you eat. Foods have a great influence on endocrine glands and subsequent hormone production.

Emotion. Like stress, can have a negative impact. Being happy is from a hormone called oxytocin. The more you make the better you feel!

Sickness. Your body is always defending and rebuilding. If your body has a hard time doing these tasks, you become sick…if you can. This means that if your body is weak and hormones glands are in poor shape, you can be sick but not really have the ability to feel just how sick you are.

Lastly, natural or not, hormones can cause cancerous tissue to grow faster! Why? Because hormones tell cells what to do by influencing DNA transcription. Without hormones, cells could not grow nor could they grow into cancer.

When hormones are in a balanced state based on what science has found to be healthy cycles, cells perform on a predictable manner and thus cancer is less likely. That’s science!

So taking hormones is not a good choice to balance unless you have surgically removed glands. At that point, the natural hormones become a good choice but ONLY as a sublingual. Never a cream or a gel. Then the goal is to wean off in the future.

Secondly, birth control is hormones and can have the same negative effects.

Natural means diagnosing your unique hormone problem and then Expertly prescribing a protocol to get your own endocrine glands back in balance with products from mother nature.

We have free consultations so that you can ask questions! You can call anytime to reserve your time with the doctor.

Fishy Fishy…what is the best fish to eat for your health and why: Well, fish make omega 3 to aid in protection of increased inflammation and to allow their muscles to stay flexible in cold water. Fish also make vit D hormone to aid in this protection. We don’t have enough omega 3 in our diets and need more! We also need more vit D for those who live in cold climates and just don’t go out in the sun for hours. That being said, fish from warm waters typically have much less omega 3 and vit D because the warm waters don’t create as much damage as cold. That make sense as cold weather does freeze stuff and if I stand out in the cold long enough, I get highly stressed as everyone does. So, you want to focus on cold water fish. That typically means from the north Atlantic. However, most “Atlantic” fish is farm raised and should be avoided because of the toxins, stress hormones the fish make and the grain diet they are fed is all bad for us non aquatic land dwellers. But we also know that people have polluted the oceans and some fish have a lot of toxins such as mercury in them and that is poisonous to humans. So The recommendations for fish are:

1) Fresh Wild caught ONLY, may have to research the company

2) No Farm Raised EVER!

3) Cold water, preferably deep dwelling cold water as they make the most omega 3 and vit D

4) Chose fish with the above rules that are lowest in Mercury and toxins: See table below:

High Mercury *Avoid*: Grouper, Marlin, Bluefish, Croaker, Halibut, Tilefish, Shark, Swordfish, Sea Trout, Mackerel (King), Amberjack, Orange Roughy, Bass, Lobster (Maine) and Tuna (Ahi, Bluefin, White Albacore).

Medium Mercury *Be Careful*: Mahi Mahi, Snapper, Carp, Rock Cod, Skate, Monkfish, Crab (Snow, Blue, Dungeness), Perch (Fresh Water), Tuna (Pacific Albacore, Chunk Light).

Low Mercury *Best*: Anchovies, Butterfish, Calamari, Oysters, Catfish, Whitefish, Scallops, Sardines, Sturgeon, Flounder, Crab (King), Haddock, Hake, Tilapia, Salmon, Clams, Shrimp, Herring, Pollock, Shad, Sole, Crawfish/Crayfish, Trout (Freshwater), Caviar (Farmed), Lobster (Spiny, Rock), Perch (Saltwater).

If you need help with your fishing expedition, we have free consultations.

1. Sugar is Not Food – It is empty calories with little nutritional value and actually causes your body to steal vitamins from other vital organs in attempt to process the sugar, leaving you undernourished. It really is an “Anti-Nutrient”.

2. Sugar Makes You Fat – It is filled with calories that are stored in your fat tissues.

3. Sugar Makes You Nervous – There is a clear link between excess sugar and disorders like anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia, because of extreme levels of insulin, adrenalin and other hormone disruptions.

4. Sugar Causes Diabetes, Kidney and Heart Problems.

5. Sugar Kills Your Teeth – Sugar increases the bacteria in your mouth that erodes enamel which means cavities. The biggest crime is that many popular toothpastes contain sugar which is not required to be put the on the label.

6. Sugar Suppresses the Immune System – Sugar interferes with the body by overtaxing its defenses and causing increased inflammation.

7. Sugar Causes Wrinkles – A high-sugar diet damages collagen.

8. Sugar Causes you to age at an accelerated rate.

9. Sugar Causes the cells of the pancreas to become diseased.

10. Sugar Makes you produce too much cortisol.

11. Sugar Reduces insulin sensitivity.

12. Sugar is known to promote a suppressed cancerous state as cancer cells can only live on sugar as the energy it needs to reproduce.

13. Sugar is the greatest contributor of increased cholesterol.

14. Sugar increases abnormal bacteria and disrupts pH in the small intestine.

15. Sugar Cause your body to crave more sugar.

16. Processing of cane sugar increases pollution and sugar beets are GMO crops.

Our hormones affect our health in many ways but one distinct way is – weight gain. Women with hormone imbalances can gain weight around their torso. Often their arms and legs are normal, and from the neck up they look awesome! Hormonally imbalanced men gain weight around their mid-sections and often are prone to develop pronounced breasts!

We know that Estrogen is produced in and increases fat cells. Simply put – the more Estrogen, the more cellular fat.

Here’s how to break the Estrogen cycle and then go on a weight management program:

Step One

Have your healthcare practitioner evaluate your hormones. You need to know the ratio of Estrogen to Progesterone currently in your body. If this ratio is out of balance, and you have Estrogen dominance, then you will likely have or currently be gaining weight around your middle.

Step Two

Consult with your healthcare practitioner whether you can engage in a Detox Program to cleanse your whole system before you engage in any new or altered meal plans. A Detox Program is an excellent way to initiate normalization of hormones and enzymes in your body.

Step Three

Under the supervision of your Health Practitioner begin an Estrogen-lowering program. This will likely include increasing your Progesterone levels with a natural treatment and / or therapy. Remember – hormone balancing was never all about Progesterone. Balancing Estrogens, if found to be out of balance to Progesterone, is equally important to your weight loss program.

A good Estrogen-lowering Program should include:

- Increase dietary fiber intake. This happens in two ways: 1.) Eat as much high fiber carbohydrates as you can by choosing fruits, vegetables and whole grains. 2.) You may need to add a fiber supplement (30 to 50 grams of fiber daily).

- Increase indole dietary intake. Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower contain indoles in your diet. This also happens two ways: 1.)Eat as much indole containing veggies as you can and 2.) supplement with an indole-3-carbinol whole food supplement. One that is made from Cruciferous vegetables. (Target 3 servings a day).

- Increase dietary essential fatty acid (EFA) intake. These are essential because the body does not make them. They help balance Prostaglandin production in the body and this in turn helps regulate Estrogens.

- Increase your overall nutrition by taking extra natural occurring vitamin C and by taking a Whole Food Organic fruit and vegetable supplement. Never take a synthetic, look for “Whole Food/Certified Organic”.

Step Four

Eat 40/30/30. Incorporate a new way of approaching meals purposing to eat Carbohydrates Proteins and Fats in a balanced way at each day. Remember, your body cant store carbs or proteins so you must eat them throughout the day and fats twice a day. When we eat balanced meals our weight will normalize, our energy levels will increase and our hormones will be in balance. Remember Carbs = green veggies or highly colored veggies. Yes organic is best!

Step Five

Get Moving. Develop a great exercise program with the help of a knowledgeable doctor or therapist. Make sure the Program is tailored especially for you – one that you can do and are willing to make a commitment to keep. Basically 15 minuets of intense cardio per day is all you really need with some weights and progressive resistance activities. You can then advance as you increase stamina and muscle.

Feeling depressed during the winter months is NOT in your head! Mood is directly related to hormone balance.

We all know that people seem to get more depressed during the winter months or certain times that may be cyclical.

So during the winter is it directly related to the lack of sun? NOPE!

Be careful of taking anti-depression medications to manage seasonal depression. There is a growing concern that these mood altering drugs actually create more severe mood problems!

1) Sure we need to make Vit D in our skin with sun exposure. But this certainly is not the only thing affecting our mood. However, get as much exposure in sun light as you can during the winter months. NO TANNING BOOTHS!

2) Food can have a great effect on mood. Yep that’s right! Eat foods that have little processing, are as close to how ”Mother Nature” grows them, eat 6 small meals per day, avoid over processed milk (ask us if you don’t know what this means), focus on consuming foods that have good fats like eggs, avocados, nuts and seeds and drink plenty of WATER!

3) What else can you do? Well…hormones play a primary role in mood. So, get your hormones balanced. The testing is easy and accurate and protocols require little effort to incorporate in your daily routines.

Please Note: balanced hormones will do more than reduce your seasonal depression, it will also have a profound effect on your health by reducing all the diseases associated with hormone imbalance and DNA transcription or the so called “genetic” diseases that no one seems to truly have a solution for.

4) Let’s not forget to exercise. Your body is designed to move every day in a way that requires some effort. No you don’t have to do a marathon but you should do something that at least begins to make you sweat.

5) And one last thing…Turn ON your lights. Its too dark out this time of year! Although this isn’t sun light, light entering into the eyes can allow the body to wake up and reduce the metatonin production by the brain during waking hours.

We have free consultations to define your concerns and health care needs.

There is no reason to think you have to “deal” with depression because you’ve “tried everything”.

Give us a call!

So now that it gets dark at 5pm (black), seasonal affect disorder is upon us (SAD). Head aches, migraines, fibromyalgia, depression (feeling blue) and a host of other hormone problems begin to create problems for many. Colds and flu also start to become more prevalent.

Why is this? Is it due to the limited sun? Why doesn’t artificial light help? Is it the colder temperatures? You catch a cold right?

Well, it’s a time when we lose the sun light so that we can’t make as much Vitamin D. Vitamin D is really a hormone not a vitamin. This means that this reduction of hormone D will affect other hormones which ultimately will affect mood, cognition and how your body functions. Vit D can only be made by sun contact with your skin. It’s not naturally in foods but is stored in some animal tissue but in small quantities.

This is why people suffer more colds, because the change in hormone profile due to reduction of Vit D reduces immune system capacity. Secondly, people tend to congregate indoors more in cold weather and hence are in closer proximity so disease spreads faster.

So you’ve got people with reduced immune systems, depressed moods getting together in the winter months. Secondly, many have imbalanced hormone profiles and are MUCH more susceptible.

I’ve heard from many women and men that this time of year is the worst for stress and arguments. With the economy looming, I fear that this season may become the worse year for female and male health conditions.

It’s never too late to take action and balance your hormones. The lab testing is easy and painless. Don’t let the black and blue season darken your health or your mood. Call us today.

As we get through the Holidays, many wonder how to eat so that they don’t put on extra weight. Sure, as a doctor serving Lake in the Hills, Algonquin, Crystal Lake and the surrounding areas, I don’t want people to put on weight but the bigger concern of mine is putting on diabetes.

Well, I want to explain that diabetes has been cured. Yep that’s right, it only takes some discipline on diet and exercise. that’s all! Really! UNLESS…you wait and continue to have diabetes for some time. If this occurs, we have protocols that will address the advancement of your diabetes and begin to remove the diabetic disease from you.

However, if you have type 1 or require insulin to manage your diabetes, you can GREATLY reduce future diabetic problems by observing discipline in your diet and exercise.

Here is the good news…Expert managment of diabetes with non-drug protocols can SIGNIFICANTLY reduce your diabetic complications as well as begin to resolve the problem.

There is research that has shown time and time again that longterm use of high-grade gymnema will begin to regrow delta cells. The cells responsible for secreting insulin.

Secondly, phytonutrients can promote uniform insulin production and normalization of insulin receptor sights.

Lastly, by normalizing your sugar intake, eating healthy (yes we spend a lot of time on this issue alone), exercise and follow our Expert protocols, you can reduce the chance of passing on the genes that “make” diabetes. Diabetes drugs force the delta cells to make more insulin but this results in harming the already overworked cells and they die at a

faster rate. Sounds stupid but that is the current treatment protocol.

Please remember that diabetes is a disease that used to be rare. It is now epidemic and food is not the only culprit! Eating and environment over time will change your hormone profile which will change DNA transcription.

Insulin is a hormone that needs to be balanced so that you don’t affect your other hormones.

Call us to find out if your prediabetes or other diabetic issues are curable. Its worth the call!

Most diabetes is related to too much demand on the pancreas to produce insulin so insulin production becomes problematic and eventually slows down. This is protective of the body so that you don’t “burn” out the pancreas totally.

So why are diabetics given prescriptions that stimulate the pancreas to make more insulin? This will only lead to premature pancreatic failure of insulin production as well as increase in “other” pancreatic functions. Of course we all know that insulin is a hormone which is directly tied to other hormone levels as well as other endocrine function. In essences, when one hormone and gland is having a problem, all other hormone production and glands HAVE to respond to accommodate That is the endocrine system. All parts are interconnected.

We have different lab procedures and protocols for diabetics that address the cause of diabetes and are protective of the pancreas! Diabetic medication accelerates delta cell dysfunction. That is why many diabetics must begin to use injected insulin in addition to the oral meds.

Before you decide to take prescription medications, give our office a call for a free consultation to find out if you can Expertly manage your disease without side effects and reduce your dependence on medication for the rest of your life.

Remember, diabetes medications and side effects lead to lifelong diabetes. That’s terrible medicine!! Unfortunately, that is the facts based on research and science. You need a better alternative now!
